Why do we write?

Hey everyone!

I’ve been thinking a lot about why I write. Not just the simple “because I like it” answer, but the real reason—why stories matter, why they’ve always been a part of me, and why I keep coming back to them, even when life gets busy or overwhelming.

For me, writing has always been more than just words on a page. It’s a way to explore what I like and dislike, and it helps me connect with the world in my own way.

Growing up, I wasn’t always the most talkative kid, especially with people my age. Sometimes, I felt like I didn’t quite fit in, and that made it hard to express myself the way I wanted. But when I wrote? Suddenly, everything made sense. Writing gave me a space to say what I couldn’t say out loud. It helped me organize my thoughts and put emotions into words, something that felt impossible in real-time conversations.

There were days when I felt out of place—days when being introverted or sensitive made things harder. But stories were always there for me. Whether I was diving into the world of Harry Potter, leading my own newspaper-inspired projects like Geronimo Stilton, or sketching out new worlds of my own, writing became a safe space. It wasn’t just about escaping reality; it was about processing it.

One of the most magical things about storytelling is how it brings people together. Even if we come from different places, have different experiences, or see the world in different ways, a good story can bridge all those gaps. Whether it’s through books, movies, or even blogs like this one, stories remind us that we’re not alone.

I write because it makes me feel heard, because it helps me process emotions, and because I love crafting stories that might one day inspire someone else the way my favorite books inspired me. Maybe one day, someone will read something I’ve written and feel the same sense of wonder, comfort, or excitement I’ve felt when reading my favorite authors. That thought alone keeps me going.

What about you? What’s something that keeps you going? Let’s talk in the comments!

Until next time,
Jeevan
