Workshop with Humanities 8 - October 29

On October 29, I had the chance to run a workshop for a Humanities 8 class, and it was such a cool experience! The idea was to create an activity that would help the students learn something new but also have fun while doing it. I wanted the session to be interactive and exciting, so I went all out with a mix of teaching, activities, and a little friendly competition.

How It Went Down:

First, let me tell you how I planned this. I made these workshop packages (I worked so hard on them, and honestly, I’m really proud of how they turned out). Each package included instructions, examples, and some creative prompts to help the students get started. My goal was to make sure everyone had the tools they needed to succeed, even if they were a little unsure at first.

When the workshop started, I introduced them to what a good story should look like, gave them a breakdown of how we’d spend our time, and then let them dive in. The activity? A contest! Each student had to write a story from some select prompts. They had to think creatively, work independently, and give it their best shot.

The Contest:

This was the best part. Once everyone had finished, I reviewed all the submissions, and honestly, I was blown away by how much effort and creativity went into them. Picking the winners was super tough, but in the end, the three best pieces stood out. You can see their amazing work over on the right-hand side (seriously, check it out — it’s so good!).

What I Learned:

This workshop wasn’t just about teaching; it was also about learning for me. I realized how rewarding it is to see young people get excited about creating something. It also reminded me how important it is to keep things fun while still being educational. I’d definitely love to do more workshops like this in the future!
